Over the past few months, I realized many business owners have tried to use Facebook ads for their marketing but plateaued with their results. Some couldn’t come up with a strategy that would set them apart, while most business owners were sabotaging their own Facebook ads.

In today’s post, I would like to share 17 ways you’re sabotaging your Facebook ads

Table of Contents

1. Not mastering your mindset surrounding your marketing

Most of us know mindset is important not just in your life but in your marketing and business.

The people you see are doing very well with ads, think like marketers. This is the key to succeeding in any form of digital marketing.

You have to make sure you know what you are trying to accomplish and you going to put out your best effort.

2. Comparing Your Ads to others

People compare all the time and its nothing wrong with that in some cases, but when you are comparing the success of other people’s ads it’s just not a fair comparison.

You don’t know what they may have going on. You don’t know how well the ads are doing or not doing.  You cannot go by likes, comments, and shares because that doesn’t really mean anything.

There are other factors that play a part such as how are their offers working, or the whole process of their goals.

3. Turning ads off too quickly

I see this a lot, people run ads for a couple of days and then freak out because they are not getting the results they’re looking for, then complain Facebook ads don’t work. You did not give the ad a chance to work.

It’s extremely rare to turn on an ad that just works. It just doesn’t happen like that. You need to let the ad run for at least 5 to 7 days depending on your budget.

4. Not setting a budget before you run ads

Don’t wait until you get to the ad manager then figure how much you want to spend. That is simply not good business, and if you are doing that, you actually don’t have a business.

You need to set up a budget before you even think about running an ad. Have your money allocated and not take it from somewhere else and hope to get the money back.

Ads won’t work that way so please set a budget.

5. Not Improving Your Skills

If you are doing the Facebook ads yourself, you defiantly need to improve your skills in what’s going on Facebook.

Facebook changes a lot, so you have to pay attention. Subscribe to some knowledgeable Facebook ad experts’ blogs, podcasts, or YouTube channels and follow them.

6. Thinking you can set it and forget it

Facebook Ads have to change, they also have to be monitored even if you have an ad going well for months, at some point, they will fatigue and you will need to do something else. So, don’t set it and forget it.

7. Trying to Let Facebook do all the work

You need to be intentional with your ads. You can’t just count on Facebook to always optimize results for you. Pay attention!

8. Have a bad offer

If you have a bad offer your ad will not drive results. It doesn’t matter how good your ad is, it’s just that simple. Make sure your offer is AMAZING, not just good but AMAZING!

9. Not studying your Ideal Client

You have to know who you are marketing to; you need to do research. Study your ideal client, think as they think.

Find out who they follow, what they do, what offers they taking, and you sign up for those same offers and follow that process. Get as involved with your ideal client as much as you can.

10. Poor Ad Copy

If you don’t know how to write an ad copy, go buy The Adweek Copywriting Handbook by Joseph Sugarman. It’s a great generally basic book about copywriting that is easy to read and easy to implement.

It is as good as most copywriting courses.

11. Wrong Image

You have to test different images; you can’t just put out any image. Remember what the mindset of your ideal client is like, most stock images just don’t work. Unless they are outrageous.

Think about where people are coming from when they are scrolling down their timeline, and ask yourself does your image stand out?

12. Not Seeking Help

A lot of people do this! They will run ads but they won’t really seek help from an expert, more often than not. It’s because they either don’t want to pay them, it cost too much, or they don’t want people to know that their ads are not doing well as they should.

If they not working start asking questions, and seek help!

13. Not Testing

You have to TEST! If it’s only the image you are testing then test it. Always test your images, copy, headline, and videos. It’s very crucial to test your ads.

14. Thinking the grass is greener

If you running an ad and you see a new feature coming out, it doesn’t necessarily mean it will work. Most of the time boring and being consistent are good strategies in marketing, which in the long run means it may be tedious to do the same thing over and over again.

Stick to what you know because the grass isn’t greener.

15. Not treating your marketing as a business

You absolutely have to treat your marketing like a business. Make a business decision not a personal decision based on good feelings, look at our data.

16. Thinking there is a magic checkbox

There is no magic checkbox! If you knew where the magic checkbox was located then all your ads would work, unfortunately, it does not work that way.

17. Not utilizing the Facebook pixel

I see this a LOT! many businesses, such as real estate, chiropractors, restaurants, wellness brands, or general contractor owners in New Jersey, don’t have a Facebook pixel installed on their website.

It’s very important to have a Facebook pixel on your website to see any success with your ads.

So, what is a Facebook pixel? It’s a small piece of code that is added to your website or landing page to access some of Facebook’s advanced advertising features such as retargeting, creating custom audiences, or lookalike audiences.

As most marketers know, the golden rule to Facebook Ads is it takes approximately 5 views before someone buys your product if they don’t know who you are. It is all about knowing, liking, and trusting the individual before you buy it.

Final Note

Remember, the goal is to use Facebook ads to drive results! Don’t make it even more difficult by making avoidable mistakes. There is no magic solution just attention to detail.
